OK, so the DS has been the hands down winner in this generation of consoles, if you disagree may I point you to the 64million consoles sold in just about 3 years (let’s put this in perspective, the ps2 sold 120 million in 7 years).
And of course, anything popular will get a steady stream of crap titles flooding out the decent ones.
I mean, just how many more “brain training” and loveable animal nappy swapping games can we take?
It’s nice that a platform is testing new grounds, and some titles such as the language training ones are certainly great ideas.
However, it’s your gamers duty to “educate” anyone you see picking up titles like “I did it mum!” without making howls of derision by thwapping them round the back of the head with a Final Fantasy or Mario Kart DS box!
Show them what they really mean by “touch generations”
Whilst browsing my usual sites, I noticed this register item.
It appears that ol’ ninty has been casting a somewhat lustful eye at Microsofts’ XBL cash cow and has decided to get in on the action and charge people for playing online.
You’ll apparently be charged using the wiipoints system to pay for the subscription, giving an incentive to actually use them now (since the virtual console is simply too expensive for what it really is).
There’s no details on when their “Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Pay and Play” (note to marketeers, please give us something less of a mouthful. Wii friend codes were bad enough, now this??) will be implemented, how much it will cost and what the subscription will cover - whether it’s a pay once and play on any game or if it’s an a la carte style with each game having its own subscription.
There’s the claim that this will only cover some titles (translation: the good ones that we know will tempt people to play them *cough*super smash brothers brawl*cough*) and that there will still be some titles where you won’t have to play (translation: the cutesy stuff that won’t get much in the way of replaying).
Whether this will retroactively cover games already sold is not clear, but I’d doubt they would go that far.
In order to inform the gamer which title is covered under this money grabbing scheme, you’ll find a virtual red sticker slapped on the dashboard icon, I’d expect a real red sticker on the title box on the shelf too.
Could this also be the implementation of a payment system for games such as runescape to be ported to the wii? That one will prolly remain an elusive rumour until more details trickle out of the usually schtumm Nintendo PR department.
do you get a strange sensation of the 70’s when the bad wallpaper of a background appears on the screen?
do you get annoyed at the submissions that are totally nothing to do with the subject matter?
Do you like the fact that you can now get load of bazaar and cool Mii’s without the need to spam your friend code out in the vain hope of getting someone to add you (and the poor friends system where it never tells you someone has added you and both sides have to independently add each other before communications can happen!)
Ever wondered why your DS doesn’t want to connect to your WiFi network?
This video should help explain why.
It’s a shame that often you are limited to the least secure network device, maybe its time that someone came up with the ability to broadcast multiple wifi networks from the one access point, especially in the days of MIMO.
A month or so ago, I noticed that my Wii had a nice little blue glow from the cd tray.
This is the Wii’s oh so subtle method of informing you that there is an unopened message sitting in the message board.
So, curious to know I powered it up and checked the board out. Sitting there was a note from nintendo saying that they were offering free wii remote jackets to people who qualify for them.
A swift trip to the address supplied in the message and I had put in my request for 4 of these things and all I had to do was wait for nintendo to review the request and give me a yay or a nay.
A couple of weeks back I got a message telling me that I did qualify
and that they will be shipped to me shortly.
It has taken a couple of weeks (I wonder how much the recent mail strikes affected this) but today they finally arrived.
The envelope they were in was already ripped, but a quick count showed all 4 were indeed in there, along with a sheet of paper informing you how to put them on (which is pretty obvious really!).
They are comfortable in the hand as well as provide a good amount of shock absorption. They will certainly help out the more sweaty palmed players when it comes to griping the remote, which is always a good thing
Final note about them.. they have a feint smell of lockets or tunes on them.. t’is strange!
OK, I don’t know about you guys but the internet channel on my wii has never really worked, it worked for the first few times after I downloaded the beta a while back now.
However, it just doesn’t seem to be capable of accessing any sites - even ones local to my network!
I haven’t deleted it and redownloaded yet, but I have updated it and no change.
so, any of you guys have problems with this channel?
ninty has finally come good on its promise to deliver content via the wii and has offered a new channel…
it’s a demo for metroid prime 3!
The download isn’t that big, was pretty easy to get onto my wii (even if there were too many superfluous menus in the way) and all I have done so far has been to load it up to the menu, I’ll see if I can have a play about later.
Hopefully this is the start of many items they offer for download, all we need now is to be able to use the wii as a base station for offering demos and content to your DS..
